Angelfall, by Susan Ee

Angelfall - Susan Ee

You know how I feel about loose ends?

 and...

And for that I had to knock off half of a star. It would have been a 3.5 for a good story, but there was just too much missing. I wanted a lot more background on Raffe, and then what's going to happen with Paige and...everything else!?!? Too much unresolved!! Can't deal.

Anyway. Now that I've gotten that off my chest...

This book had, I thought, an original premise which was refreshing. It started off strong, I noted two quotations that I really liked (and I'm not really one for picking quotes out of books) so that seemed promising.  But while I enjoyed it, I felt myself wanting something...more. Possibly in the relationship between Raffe and Penryn? Possibly what's coming in the next two books? But as I think I've made clear above, I want a full story in one book. I don't handle suspense well. Clearly. :/

I did like the characters - hells yes, having a female MC that can take care of herself. Does anyone else want to learn self defense now so you can kick the ass of offensive meatheads? No? Just me? That's cool. Anyway, I can really see why Raffe would fall for her. She actually had qualities that were worth falling for. And for a thousand(? I really need to refresh my biblical history) year old angel to fall for a girl, she would have to be special, right?

I like how the author handled the storyline with the mother. It could have been a really heavy subject, but she managed to keep it on the lighter side, which was nice.

"We now play a permanent game of I-am-crazier-and-scarier-than-you. And in that game, my mother is our secret weapon."

All in all an enjoyable story. I don't know that I would have ordinarily picked up the sequels, but I might need to now to get some closure.
