Shades of Milk and Honey - Mary Robinette Kowal This was an interesting premise, and I was excited to read it, but it ended up falling a bit flat for me. I had some problems with the development of the relationships between the heroine and certain people, particularly the one she ended up with. She spent the entire book pining for Mr. Dunkirk, only to eventually throw aside her feelings when he didn't listen to her during the climatic showdown. And then a few days later she accepts a marriage proposal from Mr. Vincent, who she has yet to show or tell us that she has any strong feelings for whatsoever. It lacked the emotion I like to see in a romance book.

I also found the final climatic showdown a little hard to follow. I had to read it twice because I wasn't sure what was happening.

Ultimately though it was an entertaining, easy read, but not something I will be keeping on my shelves.
